Dartmoor is a stunning area and I feel very at home there when I visit.
Dartmeet is a beautiful place, but I must admit I prefer to go there in the Winter time when there are not so many visitors.

Teign Valley and Wistman's Wood (Part 1)

Gosh I've been gone far to long. Have been meaning to post this since beginning of October. There are quite alot of photo's still to upload so decided to do it two parts. I hope you all had a great summer? We did although there has been lots of tears and heartache, lovely Daughter is now walking a different path on her own. She is now doing what she has wanted to do for a long while which is a Countryside Management Course and hopes to go on to a Marine Ecology Course. We are so proud of her. Life can be tough at times can't it.
We had a wonderful time in September Hubby and I (and daughter too) celebrated our 20th Anniversary, so decided the best place to do this was Dartmoor and the surrounding area's.
The day was so warm and the scenery was outstanding it was perfect..........
We felt at peace here and the wildlife was amazing...

The Past Couple of Months

We managed to grab a few weekends away and a midweek break too.......
The first a visit to the Royal Bath and West show back in June...Daughter..Boyfriend and I had a wonderful day and the weather stayed fine..not as hot as last year though.

Seth Lakeman

Back in November Hubby and I went to see Seth Lakeman at Portsmouth. Wow what a guy..He is so talented... not only has he got a beautiful voice but he can really play a violin like Ive never seen before. (click on highlighted link to see his website and video)I was so excited about going I forgot my camera or it could be my age one of the two. So no photo's to show you, but we are going to see him again in March at Farnham and this time I WILL remember my camera.

He is rather gorgeous too!

A big Hello to everyone! I'm back. I have been following blogs, but still have a lot of catching up to do. Since my last post back in April alot has happened here in Sussex. Hubby and I have turned our tried marriage into something very special. Through all the trials and tribulations we have come out the other side much closer to each other than we have been for many years. It's hard to explain, but since many visits to Glastonbury's White Spring, The Chalice Gardens and lots of hard work and patience my life's journey has taken a satisfying fulfilled and joyous path. Apart from feeling like I am on a continuous honeymoon. I am in the middle of setting up a Internet businessHERE . It's a mixture of all the things I love to make and decided maybe this would be a good time to set up a website. I have a little way to go before it's up and running, but I like things to be right.... I reckon I am the world's biggest procrastinator.
Well summer came and went,but I love this time of year the colours....the snow...and even the cold and rain. Yes I love the snow it has a good way of slowing everything down and especially the quiet that it brings.
Our caravan is now permanently based at Glastonbury, so we have spent alot of time in the last six months there. The carnival this year was amazing and if you ever get chance to go it's well worth it. The effort people put into the floats is incredible.
Well I hope you are all keeping well and warm? I am going to try and post at least once a week. A big Hello to New Followers and Thank You!

Some how I ended up looking at some old photo's of my wonderful ponies (and donkey), that were once a big part of my life.... Most of the pictures go back at least 17 years ago and so unfortunately all my faithful friends have passed away...
So I thought that it would be a fitting tribute to them, to share these memories with you. I hope you like them.............

The Little One came to me because he was going to end up in a nasty place, so I was quick to home him, until I could find him a loving owner that I knew would take great care of him. He suffered from foot problems so needed a understanding home....

I brought Ben from the New Forest Sales, he wasn't a pony that had run on the forest, he was a part bred Arab bred by a lovely lady in Christchurch Dorset (he spent 5 years with me until I had to let him go when I started college and was unable to afford two ponies). A very sad day.
Gimley on the other hand was a pure New Forest and had HD branded on his back. I purchased him at the age of 6 years from a family in Chichester... He was my 14th Birthday Gift from my parents after many years of nagging them, like most little pony mad girls..... I had a job that paid for his keep and that was the deal..Dad said I will buy you a pony but you have to pay for his keep and that I did for nearly 20 years until he passed away.....
I still miss him today.. he was my best friend. He knew more secrets about me than anyone else...... He was my crutch when I needed a shoudler to cry on ( I have suffered with depression from my early teens and he always seemed to get me out from many a dark place. Animals have this amazing ability to bring calm and peace and thats why my life has always been surrounded by them......

Without sounding to cheesy..I would like to Thank everyone who has ever taken the time to look or has left a comment on my blog. Your words are very much appreciated and I find much comfort in them....Thank You....

A few things we have been up to!

You know those times when you just need a little comfort...... You would of thought I would be fed up of mince pies and cake, but no not me! It's my take on a fairy cake....

And of course couldn't resist a walk in the snow. Onyx loves the snow, as long as she has her two coats on that is!!!

The simplist things in life make me happy......... We encounted four foxes playing in the fields, what a magical sight, but just to far away for the camera.

What a shinny red nose!

I think this year is going to be quite challenging as well as exciting... My hubby and I need different things out of our live's, so after many years of hanging on we have decided that for all off us it would be much easier to go our seperate ways. We are good friends and always will be, but it's now time to move on. I know it won't be easy, but I think it will make me a stronger person.
Anyway moving on to brighter things Miss V and I are going to Scotland next month. It's a place I have always dreamed of going to. So we decided life is for living and booked a week away. Edinburgh is our destination. The only draw back is we have to fly and I'm one of those nervous folk that doesn't it. But as Miss V has pointed out to me many a time, I've got to get over it if I want to live a spontaneous life and I have to agree. My Mum,s Dad was Scottish so I have a small connection,(my Dad's Father was from an Italian family, so perhaps that could be our next place we will visit), who know's.

I do hope that you all had a relaxing and happy time over the Christmas period and I wish you all Health and Happiness for 2010.

I can't stop listening to Sting's newest Album IF ON A WINTER'S NIGHT..... It takes me to a beautiful place...where I can dream.....

R I P Gran

My Gran passed away on the 18th November a week before her 101st Birthday.

Dearest Gran, you taught us the most valuable lessons in life. Love, understanding, patience,generosity,laughter and most of all to have a sense of humour.
You truly had a rare gift.
You were my inspiration and my shoulder to cry on. You always knew how to make things better and for that I am eternally grateful.
Remember we may be apart, but we will always be together. But to be born again, we must die.

Faery Arts and Crafts Exhibtion

On Saturday Miss V and I attended The Faery Arts and Crafts at Glastonbury Town Hall. We had a fantastic time, the hall was full of such talented people and famous ones too! We met Brian and Wendy Froud, what friendly and kind folks they are. I must admit I was slightly star struck...as the photo I had taken perhaps shows.
Victoria and I then met Josephine Wall, her art is just so magical and Tors was defintly in awe of her work, as so was I..... Josephine is so like her work beautiful and mystical, what a lovely lady.

We also met a lovely young lady called Armorel Hamilton... that creates these fantastic mystical creatures. I was totally blown away by her talents, really the photo's don't do them any justice. Armorel is also an illustrator, she told us that her website is under construction and will soon be up and running. So I will be saving up the pennies, to give one of these amazing works of art a loving home.

West Country Wonders

Our Weekend Away in Cornwall and Devon

A good time was had by all in the West country. Victoria was given a red letter day for her 18th, which was a boat trip at Falmouth for two. So we decided to make it a family break. Tors brought her friend along aswell to share in the fun.
We arrived on the Friday afternoon and managed to find a quaint little B&B (sorry forgot to take some pics) called Moonlight Guest House. I was drawn to it by the name and it didn't let us down......wonderful. Falmouth is quite a big town plenty of eating houses etc.....we found a great pub to refresh the soul. Then of course Fish and chips out of the paper on the Quay side what more could you want?

Up and out by 9am, the girls were setting off at 10am.
They had a good two hour trip, but were a little dissappointed at not being able to leave the harbour as the sea was quite choppy. Which mean't they had less of a chance of seeing any dolphins etc, which they didn't. Well that's wildlife! Although they enjoyed the views and the whole boating experience.
Hubby and I spent the two hours looking around the shops and there were certainly plenty of them that kept us entertained.

Downtown Farm Lydford Devon

We found this Farm on the journey from Falmouth. We were running out of time in finding accommodation for the night, having called into various pubs on route advertising rooms, but were all full. I must admit panic was starting to set in at this point as it was getting late. We had a little knowledge of the Lydford area so remembering a pub named The Castle Inn, popped in to check availability but again they were fully booked, they asked if we had tried Downtown Farm replying, no we hadn't, they kindly offered to enquire for us. Success they have rooms "yipee" I replied ( that evening we returned to The Castle Inn and had a wonderful meal to show our appreciation for helping us). I'll leave the pictures to show you what a beautiful place we had discovered. We were made very welcome and the animals were an added bonus. I have to be honset with you I could have stayed there for a very long time. Such a tranquil and magical place. I am really in love with the area, so it's now at the top of my places to retire to list, well it's level with Glastonbury anyway.

Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door in Dorset

On the journey home we called in to Lulworth Cove on the Dorset Coast. It's a beautiful area, I hadn't been there since the mid 80's. The car park was still the same , but I felt it had changed into a far bigger tourist destination, more shops and eating places, oh and a visiters centre. I think it had taken away some of it's charm and tranquility, but you could say this about alot of places. The locals have to make a living somehow.

If you look closely you can see him and what a wonderful beast he is. We spotted him on the way through Wareham in a densely wooded area. A lovely way to finish a fantastic weekend away.

P.S. I can't take credit for all the photo's Victoria took the one's at Falmouth and Lulworth Cove.

The Last Four Months

Hi Everyone
It's great to be back blogging again. I'd like to thank all of you who've left comments, they really mean alot to me. I decided to condense the last four months into one post. Mind you it has taken me quite a while on and off downloading all the photo's and my words are limited. I think pictures speak for themselves.
I've been following everyone and leaving comments when I can. As most people know life can be challenging at times with illness, work and upset, but life has to go on and we must make the best of it.
I find comfort in the outdoors and the landscape around us. I love all the seasons, each one has something good to share with us.
It's a rather mixed post, but I hope you all enjoy it. I'll be posting again soon about our recent break to Cornwall and Devon (Falmouth and Dartmoor).

A Beautiful place called Combe Sydenham Country park in Exmoor

Last month Victoria and I took ourselves off for a weekend away (A very welcomed break, as life has been a rather hectic lately). We spent three days travelling around Somerset and Exmoor. Staying at Glastonbury as our base, one of my favourite places on Earth.

Costume and Textile Fair at Petworth House in West Sussex

Well it seems such along time since my last post. My only excuse's are work and chores, pretty boring really. Although Saturday was different we headed out to Petworth for a Costume and Textile Fair and boy did we have a wonderful time. It was held at Petworth House (well in the grounds in fact). It's owned by the National Trust and what a beautiful setting it is, especially with the sun shining.
It's about a 25 mintue drive from our house (Oh by the way Victoria drove as she is learning at the moment, her driving test in looming ever closer), anyway we arrived at 11am just as it opened. The car park is alittle way from the Fair, but hay what a beautiful walk, the pathway lead us through the huge trees and of course the Rhododendrons, which were in full bloom, as were alot of other shrubs and trees.
Ok, so here's the entrance.

Right were in and I was quite surprized how compact it was, but you should never judge a book by it's cover as we soon found out. Now then when it comes to taking photo,s I get a little nervous about asking people for their permission, I think it's a confidence thing or even maybe the fear of rejection if they say no, so my photo's are a bit limited inside the marquees, so I apologize if they are a little bland. Victoria took a few. She is much better at it than I am lol.

This lovely bunch of ladies are from The Wealden Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers and what a lovely group of ladies they were. For along time now I have wanted to learn to spin, but up until now I have been unable to find a local group. They are based about 25 miles away at Horsham, where they meet once a month in their local hall. They are on hand to teach spinning, weaving and any other related crafts. Much encourged by their enthusiasm for me to join..I agreed and I can't wait. But hark I hear you say do you have a wheel.... no I don't, but for a very small fee of £5 a month they will loan you one, until such times that you have mastered the technique, then they will help guide through the process of buying a wheel that is suitable for you...what lovely kind ladies they are.

This lovely lady the one on the left, her name Debbie Siniska, well the other lady is actually her twin sister who was helping out and she was lovely too! Debbie makes the most wonderful Rag Rugs, well not just rugs other fantastic creations aswell. She teaches at West Dean College in Sussex. Another course on my wishlist.

And this lady stitched the most amazing creations, her name is Carey Marvin ( From Let it Fray)unfortunately I didn't get any close ups of her work (sorry).

This stall belonged to a very sweet young lady called Amy Aardvark. I must admit I did fall in love with her work. She hand prints onto organic cotton and mixes it with vintage fabric, beautiful combination. She was very surprised and grateful that I asked if I could take a picture, as she said many people don't, but I feel it is only right to.

Well I'll just leave with a few photo's of the grounds. If you are ever in the area it's well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Well... as you can probably see I didn't make any purchases and I don't know how I resisted. There is a reason why not and that is this weekend is The Vintage and Handmade Fair and I am saving all my pennies for this. I've taken the time off work and I am raring to go. It will take around 2 1/2 to 3 hours to drive there, but I know it is going to be well worth it and I can't wait to meet my fellow bloggers and all there wonderful wares..... OOh Im so excited. If your going I hope I will see you there, if not I will report back soon.

Afternoon in Lewes

About three weeks ago, Paul and I drove to Lewes for the afternoon. It's a place well worth a visit. Can't think of anything better than a town full of flea markets and antique shops. There's plenty of eating houses and a Brewery.

The castle was begun soon after 1066 by William de Warenne as his stronghold in Sussex but not completed until 300 years later with the building of the magnificent Barbican

Double Birthday Celebrations

What a wonderful weekend we had in Cornwall. Victoria and I celebrated our Birthdays, on the same day ( I know what you might be thinking, two Taureans in the same household, well actually we are best friends and we understand each other like know body else does - lol). Anyway we based ourselves in Looe in a superb Bed and Breakfast. Oh my, no cooking, cleaning and all the other jobs that make up my usual routine. Bliss, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, its just nice to have a break from the norm.

Day 1
Our journey to Cornwall lead us to Paighton first, where we dropped off Victoria and her boyfriend for a day at the Zoo. Then hubby and I made our way to Brixham, where we stumbled across a Pirate Festival, what fun (sorry have no photos as my battery went on the camera). The weather was glorious. We walked along the harbour wall watching children crabbing, sail boats coming and going and generally people just enjoying the weather.. It makes me happy to watch folk having fun and enjoying themselves.
You can't go to Cornwall without having Fish and Chips straight from out of the wrapper, so thats what we did. Heavenly.

Day 2

18 TODAY (3rd May 1991) The best Birthday present I have ever had.

Our Birthday arrives. We had a hearty breakfast, then together we opened our cards and presents, such lucky girls.
Victoria and Rico spent the day at The Eden Project.

Hubby and I went to Charlestown a Georgian port which has remained relatively unspoilt and undeveloped, reflecting how many West Country ports and fishing coves looked prior to development. Quaint granite cottages nestle into the countryside, rural farms remain untouched by modern developments and lush green fields almost merge with the sea.

Two hundred years ago, West Polmear as it was then known, was a tiny fishing village with no harbour, only three cottages and the local people made a living from catching pilchards.

In the evening Victoria/Rico spent a fun time crabbing, then we had a wonderful meal in one of the many restaurants which offered fantastic sea food.

Day 3

Another fantastic breakfast. We decided to use the morning shopping in Looe. Then we travelled back to Brixham again, just couldn't resist those Pirates.

Arrived home about 8pm, Onyx and Mowzie were pleased to see us. I don't think they felt abandoned, as my friend stayed to look after them. They just wanted to see what pressies we brought them back.

Well I do hope you also had a Happy Bank Holiday Weekend. It's taken me nearly a week to catch up with everything. I just dont know where the time goes.

Feel Free To Walk With Us!

Thought you may like to come for a walk with Onyx and myself. It takes us about an hour, unless we meet friends or stop to watch the wonderful wildlife we have here.

Here's our first friend. It's amazing what people will do to keep their grey ponies clean (it's also to keep him free of flies as well). He doesn't seem to mind though!

This is the beautiful little Church that sits at the end of our lane.
I come here quite often to sit quietly. It's a great place for reflection.

Another friend, he is one of the most beautiful Tabby Cats I've seen. He is almost like a Bengal Tiger, though the picture really doesn't do him any justice.

Now we make our way down the footpath (well it's also a cycle path). The weather is warm and the birdsong is such a joy to hear. I feel so relaxed, all I'm thinking about at this moment is how lucky I am to live so close to nature.

There are so many beautiful butterflies around, but they are far to quick to get a good photograph.
This is the only one that would stay still for long enough.

Onyx is always on the look out for furry things that run fast, so I have to keep her on the lead. We have protected Hares here and SHE doesn't know that.

Well, were on our way back now as Onyx is tried (also she's not too keen on her photo being taken), she's about 12. Although we don't really know that for sure(the vet reckons that's her rough age) as she is a rescue dog. We got her from a lovely lady who found her whilst on a camping holiday in Avebury, Wiltshire. She claimed her after a week and brought her back to Sussex, and then she came to live with us.

Had to show you these, I couldn't resist. Forget-me-knots are such delicate flowers with a big personality. I love the pastel colours of blossom too!

Well first of all I would like to apologise for the lack of posts. It has been quite a hectic month, not only with work, but family illness, a funeral, a birth and I also had to have our little rat Leyland put to sleep. I've tried to keep up with every one's blogs and left comments,I just haven't managed to write any posts. I really do appreciate everyone who has joined my list of followers.
Well I do hope everyone had a lovely Easter? I must admit I worked most of it but still managed to bake an Easter cake and take in some chocolate. My hubby and I did spend a couple of hours Monday evening together and ended up at Chichester harbour and walking for 4 miles, it was such a lovely evening I didn't want it to end.

I spent yesterday afternoon with my daughter which was a real treat, as she is normally with her boyfriend or doing coursework. So we decided to take in some fresh air and went to Slindon woods which is about a five minute drive from us.
The one that got away. We were amazed how this lonely berry had survived.

I just love bluebells and the smell was amazing.
We then decided to travel onto Petworth and came across these wonderful beasts. The cows were in the field opposite to the bull and there was lots of flirting going on.

We then went onto Burton Mill Pond, which is located in a place called Fittleworth, great for bird watching.

We had a wonderful afternoon together, something I will treasure. My daughter and I are the very best of friends and these precious moments are becoming less frequent, as she makes her own journey in life.......

Not to sure about this painting, I know its not finished. I think I've said before that I'm a great fan of Brian Froud. His work just captivates me. But I'd really like to create an original of my own. I have always been able to replicate, but not from my own imagination.
At our Local Adult Education centre they have just announced a 10 week illustration course due to start in April and feel that I could benefit from these tutorials. I have lots of ideas floating around in my head, I just need a little encouragement to help transfer them onto paper. Have been so amazed since becoming an addicted blogger, at the number of fantastic artists there are, a few names come to mine, Jackie Morris, Danielle Barlow, Julia Guthrie, Cat from darklingwoods, Karen , Kathleen Coy
to name but a few. I admire you all.
Well I'm off dog walking now, hopefully dodging any showers, as Onyx hates the rain!

Making the Most of the Sun

Mowsie is a Sun Worshiper, as I think most cats are. I cant take the claim for this lovely photo though. My daughter is currently studying photograpghy at Chichester College and I think she has captured him well. There's definitely a skill in taking photos and having a good eye and I feel she has that. Although I am saving hard at the moment to update my camera, so hopefully I might improve my skills.

There's a Mouse in the house

I couldn't resist this picture.
We have a mouse in the house or should I say the kitchen and he is far to quick for me to be able to get a picture of him or her. So I think this one is a good substitute.
I'm a little frustrated about the whole mouse thing though. People kept telling me to get a mouse trap and get rid of it, but as far as I'm concerned he/she is doing no harm. Why is it we are so quick to eradicate these beautiful little creatures. It is not causing a problem, so I am keeping him/her. I have become quite fond of the little feller. I have told him to keep out of the way of the cat though.
What do you think? Am I being over protective. Surely we have to expect wildlife to share our space, when we live in the country. They share with us their space and I don't hear them complaining.I wish that we could all live in harmony with nature. What a better place it would be. X

Glastonsbury Fix

Its been a week already since I went to Glastonbury, I just don't know where the time goes.
I always feel revitalized when I come back, not sure whether its the water from the well or just Glastonbury itself. Well to be quite honest I'm not really bothered, I just know its the most amazing place to be.
I must admit I do find it abit of a struggle to get to the top of the Tor,but its well worth it. I like it when its quite windy, as its blows away all the old cobwebs.
Only another two weeks and I'm back again. Yippee!

For many years now I have been a real fan of Brian Froud. Mesmerized by his works.He is a complete and utter genius. I never tier of gazing at his fantastic drawings and paintings, which often encourages me to get out the watercolours and interpret some of my favorites. He totally captivates my imagination.

I love snow it really changes the whole landscape, any excuse to get the camera out. We dont often get snow here as we are sheltered by the South Downs, so I try and make the most of it when im not working. Onyx turns into a puppy again. Considering she is around 12 years old there are certainly no signs of her slowing up, it sends her into a frenzy of excitment. I feel privileged to live so near to the countryside and share with the wildlife their wonderful habitat.

100 years old

On the 25th Nov we celebrated my Grans hundredth Birthday, what an achievement, as her photo shows she certainly doesn't look her age. She has seen two World Wars, had three children, three grand children, 8 great grand children and has out lived all her friends. My Gran was the one that taught me to knit when I was only 5 years old, its one of those special moments that you treasure forever and I'm sure if it wasn't for her failing eye sight she would still be knitting today. I know there's one thing she will always have and that's her wonderful sense of humour, she still tells a good joke.
On Friday she left her home for the last time where she still lived on her own and I brought her down to Chichester from Sutton to live in a residential home, where she is now being looked after. This was her choice as she said that she was now ready for someone to look after her and to the family's relief we also agreed, now we can visit everyday, as its only a short journey for everyone. I know how lucky I am to still have my gran, so now's my chance to spoil her.
